Medicare Bill Affects Cancer Care

This Norwich, CT article outlines one unforeseen effect of the new Medicare prescription bill will be taking humane care out of cancer treatment. More patients will have to receive their chemotherapy and other drugs in the cold atmosphere of a hospital.

Congress didn't realize the huge effect the cuts would have, Slam said. "There was so much pressure to get this Medicare prescription bill passed. And they needed money to fund it. And they took it out of the hide of cancer care."

The cuts don't apply to hospitals because they are reimbursed differently.

However, the burden of care will affect hospitals which are already short-staffed, short of space and more expensive to run.

"People are looking at the money," Gordon said. "They're not looking at what's best for the patient."
