Program Bonds Teen Mothers With Infants

Wisconsin is starting their first Baby FAST, a baby-bonding program for teen mothers and their families.

It includes floor play, music and infant massage, which researchers believe stimulate dendrites - extensions of neurons that allow nerve impulses to be transmitted - in the baby brain.

"The research says that if the mother feels supported, she can then better support her child's brain development," Normandin said. "In turn, until they are 20 or so, teen mothers' brains are developing, as well."
