Racing dogs get top treatment during training season for the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race.
The dogs wear booties on their feet to protect them from the abrasive snow that can cause splits to develop between their toes. Some dogs rest with neoprene wraps around their wrists to prevent swelling and drivers constantly apply foot ointment to feet and massage tired muscles to keep the dogs limber. There's straw waiting for each of them at each checkpoint and some even get to snooze underneath blankets between runs.
