Ashiatsu Oriental bar therapy, a massage modality that involves the therapist walking on the client, is gaining a toehold in the United States:
With more Americans than ever turning to massage for pain relief, the specialized practice of Ashiatsu is gaining popularity among those looking for unusually intense compression. Ashiatsu offers an added perk for massage therapists: It saves wear on their hands and bodies.
Milavec, a Chicago School of Massage Therapy graduate, said that it has extended her 15-year career. Her Ashiatsu-trained colleague Cindy Spake of Quincy, Ill., called Ashiatsu, or foot pressure, the ``wave of the future'' for massage therapists who want longevity in the field.
