The Far Out Is Embraced Here

Michigan healing arts center incorporates alternative medicine, pastoral counseling, art therapy and lectures on a diverse range of topics.

In this place, health and spirituality meet every day, then intersect for all time. Ancient healing bumps into technology. And practices once thought to linger on the far edge of the sciences -- massage therapy, yoga, reiki, relaxation therapy -- now sit firmly in the mainstream of health and fitness.

She hosts healing touch sessions twice a month for cancer patients, a gift from the massage therapists and other practitioners at the center.

The center's practitioners offer "alternative" therapies, she says, not meant to replace traditional medicine, but to "complement" it.

Once the power of healing touch, or massage, was questioned, but now it is incorporated into the most traditional care.
