Knuckle Popping

Can knuckle popping cause arthritis? That's the question posed to Dr. Weil, alternative medicine guru and author of many books and articles in Prevention Magazine.

The habit may be annoying for those around you, but cracking your knuckles doesn't appear to cause any serious health problems -- a number of studies have disproved the myth that it leads to arthritis. However, you can injure your joints when you manipulate them to "pop" them. Worse, habitual knuckle-cracking can lessen the strength of your grip and cause swelling of the soft tissues surrounding the joint.
