Therapists Need Massage Too

The last time I had a massage was the middle of July. It's been too long--I should be getting massage at least every other week. I have the luxury of trading out my massages with my coworker. However, with both our schedules being busy, it's important for me to establish relationships with other peers in my community so I can get massage when I need it.

Why is it so important for massage therapists to receive massage? First, massage, along with exercise, allows the therapist to maintain their body in peak condition so they can continue to serve their clients without injury. If you can use the therapy to prevent yourself from becoming injured, then it's irresponsible not to.

Second, how can I sell a service that I myself do not consume? Imagine doing physical work to help speed recovery in other people with injuries and you get injured doing your job. You have an opportunity to show your clients the efficacy of massage by being a living example.

Finally, in my experience, massage helps me with concentration and helps me be better at massage. I don't need my own life stresses getting in the way of my compassion for people. With regular bodywork I can stay on task and truly listen and respond to the needs of my clients.
