What Is A Physical Therapist?

Oftentimes, I'm asked by clients what is the difference between what I do and what a physical therapist does. While my duties as a massage therapist overlap slightly with physical therapy, my training, credentialing and scope of practice is extremely limited compared with a physical therapist.

Because physical therapists are required to understand a wide range of conditions that may affect the body's ability to move or function normally, all physical therapists are college graduates.

The primary goal of the physical therapist is to teach the patient to correct any underlying causes of the problem and to improve and maintain function independently through exercise.

They are experts in the examination and treatment of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular problems that cause pain or limit the ability to perform daily activities.

Insurance will cover physical therapy treatment for most conditions, but coverage will vary with each plan.
