Maggie, the orangutan at Brookfield Zoo, suffers from hypothyroidism. Part of her malaise with the condition included headaches, which the zookeepers treated with head massages.
"She had severe headaches, and when she was in the off-viewing areas, she would come and lean her forehead on the front of the cage so that we could massage her temples," Sodaro said. "Sometimes she fell asleep like that."
Happily, Maggie is on thyroid medication which has renewed her vigor and is no longer suffering from regular headaches.
