This Week's Special
Some weeks it seems that someone has affixed a sign on my back that says:
SPECIAL
THIS WEEK ONLY
Get your low back worked out here!
This week, especially Wednesday, it seemed that every other person had a big knot below and just medial to their scapula. One client has this chronic knot and it becomes inflamed when they are under stress. Because of them, I decided to approach this problem a little differently than just applying deep tissue therapy and heat.
An old bodywork maxim states: What is below is also above. This also applies sometimes that what is irritated in back must have a complementary area of dysfunction in the front of the body. And, so, that is the approach I chose to take to knots medial to the scapula.
Every person I worked had a very tender area in the musculature of the chest, especially between the 4th and 5th rib next to the sternum. Many also had extreme tightness and tenderness in the pectoralis minor muscle. Soften those knotted muscles and apply a little craniosacral therapy to shift the positioning of the shoulder, and clients were leaving feeling much better, not only in their back, but also in their neck.
