Doula Want To Massage

Massage therapists looking for a focus to their practice might consider become a doula or labor massage therapist to expectant mothers.

Doctors, nurses and midwives must safely manage the medical side. Doulas, meanwhile, focus only on providing physical and emotional comfort to a woman on the verge of becoming a mother.

Doulas bring with them a “been there, done that” kind of engaged calmness, Rebekah Cook said. While her husband teared up during the last few minutes of labor, her doula stayed 100 percent on task.

According to DONA, doulas may be more than a luxury, more than a comfort for all the parties involved. The DONA Web site lists positive birth outcomes ranging from shorter labor to greater satisfaction with childbirth to lower Cesarean rates.
