Massage Therapist Sees With His Hands

After losing his sight at the age of 23, Bruce Rainey went to massage school and has been a practicing massage therapy ever since.

Because a masseuse works primarily by feel, Rainey can tend to his clients without having to see them. He asks questions. He says he can fix a migraine headache, ease sore muscles with a Swedish or deep-tissue massage, help an aching back, and relieve stress without having to see the person on whom he is working.

"Sight is no advantage in massage," he said. "It's all feel. Everybody who is sightless ought to look into it. It's a good living. You won't get rich, but it's a good living."
