Pawsative Strokes

Living in today's world can be stressful. And if your stress is in the home, it can impact the whole family, including your pets. Massage has become a more common means of stress relief, and animals can benefit as well.

"Your dog benefits from massage, and there are some really good long-lasting effects," she said. General wellness, muscle stimulation and strengthening, pain relief from arthritis or cancer, and reduction in behavioral problems such as hyperactivity or separation anxiety are some ways canines may benefit from massage.

"Dogs are just as stressed out as their owners," she said. "To see the look on their faces when they feel some relief is just like the biggest bowl of treats. There's a glow on their faces. You can see it in their eyes, and you know that you've helped them."

Therapist looking to breathe new life into their careers may want to consider enhancing their practice with canine or equine massage.
