GROWing Relationships

A Cincinnati organization will help sixth- and seventh-grade girls and their mothers learn how to strengthen their relationships, take care of themselves and further their education.

"GROW provides an opportunity for girls ... to strengthen their relationship with their mothers through positive relationships with other outstanding women in the community," said Johnna Fasold, vice president of public relations and communications for Citigroup. Dansberry said Gateway will host a how-to class on auto repair and a class on healthy stress reduction, such as massage therapy.

Catching the girls at this age is critical, Dansberry said. During the teen years, it's easy for them to lose their connection with their moms, she said. "The program is designed to strengthen bonding between mothers and daughters at an age when daughters are beginning to make decisions that will impact them and their community for the rest of their lives," she said.
