Flood victims are still suffering from the trauma six months after flood waters forced them from their homes. Many who coped well with the initial crisis may not realize the extent of their trauma until their losses catch up with them months later. Studies conducted on flood victims say that anxiety and depression following such an event can affect people for years afterward.
The Cumbria Flood Therapy Group offers half-hour sessions of aromatherapy, counselling, massage, reflexology, reiki or shiatsu from its base above Tesco’s on Victoria Viaduct, Carlisle.
Iris Rogan, one of the therapists behind the scheme, said: "It’s well-known that stress can lead to illness. By releasing it, then hopefully you can avoid any long-term backlash that may affect people’s health.
"It's a chance for people to unwind and forget about their troubles for a while."
