Get Your Eyes Examined

In the spirit of encouraging good health, I have a confession. I went for an eye exam this morning, the first I've had since 1994. Lucky for me, my vision has not changed and my eyes look healthy. However, according to my eye doctor's office, people should get an eye exam about once every two years. If you wear glasses, have diabetes or glaucoma, you should have your eyes checked annually.

I have some farsightedness in my left eye, but then, all of my physical complaints are on my left side. From shoulder tension to low back pain to my shoes wearing out, the left side of my body bears my dysfunction.

Interestingly, one of my peers has a little technique using the eyes to help relieve tension at the base of the skull. Holding the head in neutral position, she has the client look strongly left then right, upper left then lower right, upper right then lower left. Her fingers are on the suboccipital muscles so she can feel subtle flexion of the muscles while the eye moves. Who knew our vision could affect muscle tension in our neck! It's just another example of how everything in the body is connected.
