Another Reason To Muzzle The Gift Of Gab
Every massage therapist has them: Clients who book for one appointment and never come back. The reasons are many--most of which we will never know. However, those massage opportunities could be lost because of excessive conversation from the therapist.
The kind of chitchat you enjoy with friends over lunch may not be as welcome when you're forking out precious cash for a massage, spa service or haircut.
It's perfectly natural for people to want to experience their massages in silence, said Erin Hughes, a massage therapist and teacher at the Providence Institute.
Communication with a client is important, Hughes said, but it should really only be related to the service.
I'm as guilty as anyone--clients share much with their therapists and come to feel like friends. I try constantly to inhibit my tendency to talk too much during a session. This is just a reminder to keep working at it.
