A Back In Spasm

Years ago, I got stuck for two hours on my hands and knees unable to move a fraction of an inch in any direction because my back was in spasm. So I was sympathetic to the two clients yesterday who scheduled emergency appointments for back spasms. Both were on serious pain medication and anti-inflammatory drugs.

I began by testing the mobility of the sacrum, a technique I picked up in my most recent visceral manipulation class. Then I warmed up the muscles of the back from as high as the shoulders. With good communication and patience, we began working the core of the muscle spasm.

Both clients were moving more freely after the session. I assigned both mild stretches to take advantage of the ease they gained from the session. Both scheduled another appointment.
