Breast Cancer: Be Aware

The daughter of one of my clients was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is pre-menopausal which has its own complications. But what is so shocking about her breast cancer is that it was not detected using a mammogram. This variety, which affects the milk ducts, was detected high up on the chest wall, above the area where a mammogram can read. Many people are not aware that breast tissue extends up to the clavicle bone and around underneath the armpit, no matter what size the breast is.

Luckily it was caught in stage two, but that required the removal of sentinel nodes in the axillary region or armpit. The downside of any interruption of the lymphatic system puts the woman at risk for lymphedema. It's a cruel reality that once someone has survived breast cancer and feels they finally exhale, they need to be aware of another complication of the condition that they will have to monitor and treat for the rest of their lives.
