Multiple Malleolar Fracture

My sister slipped and broke her ankle in three places. The doctor called it a multiple malleolar fracture. She has a plate and several pins in the ankle. She will be in a cast for 10 weeks and will be generally inconvenienced until May.

The impact of using crutches and standing up using one leg will definitely have an effect on her body that massage can mediate. Most of her weight is born on her arms. It is important, not only to massage the working leg, but the cast leg as well in order to reduce atrophy.

Another aspect of her injury is the discovery of how profoundly disabled she is by something relatively minor. Her house is not equipped for a wheelchair nor is her bathroom equipped with bars for any kind of disability. Standing up from a seated position is difficult unless she is elevated--it's been an eye opening experience for all of us.
