Don't Forget To Work The Chest Muscles

Sometimes clients show up with back pain in their mid to upper back. Muscle tension throughout the ribcage can show on the front side of the body. A client arrived yesterday with this exact complaint stating that their chest (an area where we actually work frequently) had not been bothering them lately.

I worked the back and neck with special focus on the intercostal muscles of the ribs as they wrap around to the front of the body. Just to be thorough, I checked the chest muscles and found pectoralis major and pectoralis minor to be very tight on the left side. Though there was no pain associated with this muscle tension, relaxing these muscles gave my client the relief in their back that they were seeking.
