Grief, Craniosacral Therapy, And Presence
There is an old saying that death comes in threes. I had a day recently where every person who lay across my table had a tale of loss. One clients' elderly parent entered the hospital for what they believe is the beginning of the end. One client lost a family member in an automobile accident. Another elderly client, normally sanguine and glib, sighed in resignation to their old age and mortality. Another lost a cousin to suicide. And finally, yet another bemoaned unwittingly wandering into a conversation with their hair dresser about the recent suicide of their spouse.
What is a therapist to do with so much grief? Be present. Listen with an open heart and quieted voice. Soothe with gentle touch. No better tool can be used for the treatment of psychic wounds than craniosacral therapy. The concentration and presence required to perform the therapy is just the right amount of "being there" that people need to feel supported in their grief.
