My Journey With Endometriosis (Part 3): Customer Service

Once my doctor reconfirmed my diagnosis with endometriosis, he gave me treatment options: hormone replacement therapy, surgery, pain medication or nothing. I was hoping to get through my condition until menopause where the symptoms and estrogen triggers would go away on their own.

I had already tried hormone therapy for migraine headache treatment and that didn't work. So, I considered that option out. Doing nothing at this point was not an option. I decided to go for the surgery.

Once I decided to take the surgery route, I wanted it out of the way as soon as possible. This disrupted at least a weeks worth of scheduled clients. I began calling as soon as I'd scheduled the surgery. I was missing more work time than I wanted to, but this is probably a blessing.

My policy for moving client appointments, as stated on my office policy sheet, is as follows:
There are times that I may have to move or cancel your appointment. I will do my best to give you 24 hours of notice of such changes barring emergencies. It is up to the discretion of the therapist to offer discounts in exchange for missed or moved appointments.

Whenever possible, I would move my clients' appointment without explanation. However, when you're involved in a personal business, like massage therapy, it is difficult not to have close relationships with your clients. Everyone was very supportive and forthcoming with helpful information about their own experiences or the experience of friends regarding the condition and the surgery.

This week I will be blogging about my experience with endometriosis. I will be sharing information about what endometriosis is, its symptoms, treatment options and my personal experience with the disease.
