Don't Be Shy About Asking For Help

According to the Auburn, Calfornia Journal, people who have injuries or surgeries have to ask their doctors to prescribe physical therapy or massage therapy, or they won't get rehabilitation.

Today patients are learning that it is more important than ever to take responsibility for understanding what is going on with your body and communicating with the doctor.

Karen Krause, an independent licensed physical therapist and certified massage therapist in Auburn who accepts Medicare says, "With all of the changes in the health care system, rehabilitation from an injury is something more and more patients aren't getting unless they ask for it."

On a personal note, I had the same experience when I went to an orthopedist for my chronic back pain. Other than trying to fit me into a corset, which was ill-fitting and did not giving me the support that I needed, I was handed a sheet of simple back exercises which I already knew how to do. No mention was made about rehabilitation to pinpoint where my pain was coming from or what specifically I needed to strengthen. As a result, I still have back pain, and I just live with it.
