"First Line Of Defense"

An article in the Spring 2008 issue Massage Therapy Journal published an article that talks about our role as massage therapists in spotting skin cancer. They called me based upon an early blog post (March 1, 2005) and included my experience in their article. Unfortunately, that article is not available on-line, but if you are an AMTA member and get the Massage Therapy Journal, you can read the article.

Just for the record, I saw the first client mentioned in the article during my first day of clinicals at massage therapy school. That is why I did not have the contact information to follow-up with that person. I've always wondered if they got someone to check that mole.

Of course, as massage therapists, we are in a unique position for early detection of skin cancers. For that reasons it's important to know the ABCDs of skin cancer detection. You could save a life.
