The Importance of Breathing

I went through my blog history and discovered several blog ideas from 2003, when I first started posting. I jotted down the ideas, but never fleshed them out, so I thought it would be fun to share some of them this week. I'm posting the original idea, fleshing it out a little or updating the information where possible, and providing a link to any post that I eventually did make on the topic if I can find it. So, here goes:

From June 16, 2004: Breathe Perchance To Dream
Breathing well is more than sucking in air and collapsing when you let it out.

Very few people, apparently, get the right amount of oxygen circulating in their bodies. The effects are vast: reduced energy levels, sore muscles, sleep disturbances, and difficulties remembering things and concentrating.

"Breathing is the foundation for health and a calm mind. . . . If you do it right, it provides a natural massage for the entire body," said Evans, who began holding holistic-breathing classes in February (www.holisticbreathing.com).

The benefits of breathing include purifying the blood, creating an unfriendly environment for cancers to develop, feeding the oxygen-hungry brain, and helping to calm the mind and body among many others.

Don't delay, adopt a habit of deep breathing today.
