Science Daily is an interesting website blog that covers a great range of science news. Another nice thing about the website is that each article offers both APA and MLA citations, a godsend for graduate students like me.
In this article, a UCLA study is cited that states that loss of sleep, even for only a couple of hours one night, can cause increased inflammation in the body.
A new article in the September 15th issue of Biological Psychiatry, by the UCLA Cousins Center research team, reports that losing sleep for even part of one night can trigger the key cellular pathway that produces tissue-damaging inflammation. The findings suggest a good night’s sleep can ease the risk of both heart disease and autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Now if we could just convince our very nocturnal cat that the reason HE can't sleep at night is because of inflammation, he might settle down and we can all feel better.
