Dads Can Massage Baby, Too

Moms have an instant bond with baby that has been developing all through pregnancy. She is mindful of what she is eating, makes sure she sleeps in just the right position for optimal blood supply to the baby, feels those first kicks, and is aware of baby's sleeping patterns well before the baby is born.

Dad, on the other hand, is not nearly so intimately connected to the baby. But one way for Dad to get a leg up is to give baby massages. He's going to have to be willing to give up some of his testosterone, according to research with marmoset monkeys.

A study of monkeys now reveals how the mere scent of his baby can turn dad from protector to parent, by ratcheting down levels of the male hormone testosterone.

Another way to bond with babies (and win serious brownie points with Mom) is to change baby's diaper. Any kind of intimate contact with the baby will help, such as carrying them in a sling against your body.

So, roll up your sleeves, guys, and get ready to be "hands-on" with your parenting skills.
