Yet Another Reason To Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup

Besides being an additive to nearly every preprocessed food, and a primary suspect in obesity and the diabetes epidemic, scientists have discovered yet another reason to avoid high fructose corn syrup. According to WashingtonPost.com, a study is out that found mercury contamination in almost half the foods made with high fructose corn syrup that they tested. It is especially prevalent in sweetened dairy products, dressings and condiments.

Mercury is toxic in all its forms. Given how much high-fructose corn syrup is consumed by children, it could be a significant additional source of mercury never before considered.

Contaminated caustic soda is the source of the mercury. Caustic soda is a necessary ingredient in the refinement of high fructose corn syrup and is used to adjust pH balances.
