Knee Microfracture Surgery
In keeping with our unit on knee injuries, we had an orthopedic surgeon visit and give a guest lecture about the more common knee surgeries.
Then, my husband David, a Philadelphia native and an avid sports fan, found an article about Jon Runyan of the Philadelphia Eagles. At 35, he's had surgery on his knee by Dr James Andrews, the best orthopedic surgeon in the country, who practices right here in Birmingham, AL.
Runyan, 35, needed more than a clean-out of the knee. He underwent arthroscopic microfracture surgery by James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala.
Therapy and patient education has much to do with the recovery of function following surgery. Range of motion will be addressed immediately, but bearing weight on the affected knee will likely be restricted for about 6 weeks so that the cartilage has a chance to regrow.
