Making Clients Feel Comfortable

Massage Magazine asked: How can a massage therapist best address new clients' fear or nervousness when receiving a first massage?

And they printed my reply:
With new clients, it is important to let them know they are in control of the session and that they can stop it any time. I explain how they will be covered, that they can disrobe to the level they are comfortable and that, no matter what, they will be covered by the drape except for where I'm working. Before I start working, when I have them on the table, I also tell them I will explain everything I'm doing before I do it so there won't be any surprises. I always ask permission to move the drape, indicating where the border of the drape will be with slight pressure using the ulnar side of the hand.

See what others had to say on the topic.
