Losing Weight

When I started my clinical internship in early February, I was the heaviest I've ever been. I blame all the goodies from my "problem based learning" classes. Every time we'd meet, we all had rotating assignments. One of the assignments was to bring a snack. By Thanksgiving, I'd outgrown half of my pants and had to acquire a couple of new pair to wear to my internship.

Yesterday, I took one of my bigger pair of pants off the shelf and they fit! I've lost 6 pounds. Part of it, I'm sure is being on my feet working all day and not having a chance to snack between breakfast and lunch. Second is the concerted effort I have put into trying to alleviate my on-going back pain. With the help of my fellow clinicians, I have learned some more self-help techniques and additional exercises to correct my SI joint instability.

On the home-front, we have been making a concerted effort to eat healthier. We do pretty good at home by limiting the amount of snacks that we eat. The push has been to avoid processed food and eat out at places that serves vegetables. That rules out most fast food venues, including our old stand-by Taco Bell. Sorry Bell, but you're grilled stuft burrito and small drink with refills is contributing to my weight gain. I should have know that, since David and I have been eating there once a week since we started dating--it's kind of "our place." Who knew that cutting back to once a month would help me shed a couple of pounds?
