Nets therapist, Ming Chew, helped heal Jason Kidd's knee injury with a technique called Active Release Technique. Chew has taken from many different theories of physical rehabilitation -- both Western and non-Western -- and blended them into the form he now practices on patients.
Kidd had bruised his knee during the first game of the season, bruised it again in the same spot sometime later, and none of the treatments had worked.
"Jason's problem was not in his knee," Chew said. "Even though his doctors had given him a bone bruise diagnosis, his problem was in his neck, his right hip, his left lower back, his left femoral nerve. I probably touched Jason's knee for 10 minutes, not because I needed to, just because I didn't want him to think, 'Who is this crazy guy who thinks he can cure my knee without touching it?'"
However, his technique, which he claims has an 80 to 85% success rate, has drawn criticism from conventional medical practitioners
"I'm skeptical of any technique that hasn't been properly studied," Stitik said. "That's how things are done in medicine. If you have a technique you think will help people, you subject it to study. You control the experiment. You blind the patients so they don't know what technique they're getting. You peer review it so someone is looking over your shoulder.
